Your Responsibilities
At the yard, we work with shunting and sorting freight wagons. This means that wagons arrive in trains from all over the country and are divided and assembled into new trains to reach our important customers and terminals. In addition to the shunting itself, functional checks and brake tests of the wagons are included before they depart for new destinations.
A common goal is to ensure that trains reach customers on time and safely. This requires a high level of engagement from everyone working at the yard.

Who are we looking for?
In the role of supervisor/driver in shunting service, also called yard worker, it is important that you have a strong safety mindset and can easily absorb new instructions. You have the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practice, enjoy following rules and routines, and understand their importance. You are collaborative and take great personal responsibility for your tasks. Since the work is performed in a safety service, you need to be able to communicate and absorb instructions fluently in Swedish.
To work as a driver in shunting service, you need to meet the following basic requirements:
- Be at least 20 years old (requirement according to the Swedish Transport Agency to apply for a driving license)
- Be able to present an approved diploma from secondary education or equivalent education at the level of SeQF 4.
- Have normal color vision
- Be able to work irregular shifts
- Be physically and mentally fit for the job
- Have a B driver's license
Worth Knowing
The position is a permanent full-time employment initiated by a 6-month probationary period.
At the yard in Vännäs, there is solo work and work together with our train drivers. Working hours are scheduled on weekdays, with both morning shifts from 07:00 to 15:00 and afternoon shifts from 14:50 to 19:30.
Your employment begins with a paid basic training of 16-18 weeks that prepares you for the job. The training includes theory and practice, ongoing knowledge tests, and concludes with an examination.
At Green Cargo, we have a salary scale as follows:
- 21,000 SEK/month – Training salary
- 28,630 SEK/month - After examination from our basic training
- 33,685 SEK/month - When you have worked two years in the role
To work as a driver in shunting service, a driving license is required. According to the Swedish Transport Agency, there is a requirement for a complete secondary education with approved grades to have your application for a driving license approved. Recruitment Process
The recruitment process begins with you receiving a first selection test to your email after you have submitted your application. The selection test must be completed to proceed in the recruitment process. After that, interviews, occupational psychological assessment, health examination including alcohol and drug tests, reference checks, and background checks will be conducted.
